How to cook filipino food: Lechon Kawali

Lechon Kawali is quick and easy to make yet delicious and very crispy.  Lechon Kawali means pan roasted pork.  Lechon is a filipino food that is most popular in Cebu.  Lechon kawali is made from pork belly.  It is boiled for a long time and deep fried.  In the Philippines, pork belly is the best part of the pig and it is used in many of other Filipino dishes.


In America, pancit and lumpia reign supreme as the most popular Filipino dishes.  As more people try Lechon Kawali I am sure it will join the most popular of Filipino foods around the world.  Let’s get cooking!


2 pounds pork belly

5 C water

5 cloves garlic

2 tbsp salt

1 tsp pepper

1 tbsp seasoning or sugar

2 liters vegetable or coconut oil



1.  Wash your pork belly and put it in the                                            pressure cooker or regular.

  1. Add garlic, salt, pepper and seasoning.
  2. Add water and boil until the meat becomes soft.
  3. Deep fry and chopped into smaller pieces. Serve your Lechon kawali with soy sauce mix with vinegar, some chopped onions and tomatoes.
